Our mission at the Adrenal Insufficiency Coalition (AIC) is to improve care for adrenal insufficiency patients through education and empowerment.
AIC was created to address a need for better communication between patients and physicians in the AI community.
Although some patients do well on cortisol replacement, there are many who do not. One of the main issues these patients face is the confusing array of information about adrenal dysfunction. It is hard to tell what information is credible and what isn’t. When patients take information from the internet to their doctor’s office it is often dismissed. However, physicians also use the internet for information; they should be on the same page.
When our team began looking for AI documents and articles, we found so many, the choices were confusing. We also discovered that important pieces of information on a specific subject (for example psychological stress dosing) had changed over time. If a person wanted to find current information on dosing for emotional stress, they’d have to sort through many documents to get the correct information. Our intention is to provide you with the best possible open access documents on all subjects related to adrenal insufficiency.
On this website you will find research papers, published guidelines, and compilations of information.
It is all available to print and share free of charge.
We use research from credible sources such as The Endocrine Society, The National Institutes of Health, and peer-reviewed research papers from around the world as a foundation for our materials.
We have enjoyed collaborating with other organizations to create compilations, including the National Adrenal Disease Foundation (NADF) and Adrenal Insufficiency United (AIU). All of our materials are either written or reviewed by physicians. We also write posts on specific subjects, for example crisis prevention. These posts include links to related documents for patients to print and share with their doctors. We have begun a series of brochures for both patients and physicians to print and share. Now available are the “Adrenal suppression from steroid treatment” and “Testing, what is the difference between AI, Cushing’s, and Adrenal fatigue?”
Who we are
The AIC team is made up of people living with adrenal insufficiency.
We share the common bond of wanting to help others struggling with this disease. Each of us contribute from our own perspectives and experiences with AI. We face the same challenges, both physical and emotional, as the community we support. We are committed to improving patient care and we believe that by working together, we can help AI patients find a better quality of life.
